| Zambia, is a country with a spectacular
natural heritage. There are many endemic species and its vegetation
rivers and lakes makes it one of the most unique natural habitats
in Africa.
In the 70s commercial poaching Zambia, making it from one of
the richest countries in wildlife into a land rich in endangered
species. In a decade alone, in the Luangwa valley, over 35,000
elephants were killed and the black rhino become a thing of the
past. The whole population estimated around 4500 individuals were
slaughtered.
There are 19 national parks, the better known are perhaps, South
Luangwa, Kafue, and Lower Zambeze. At the moment there is a project
for opening new conservation areas and natural parks. North Luangwa
NP used to be a natural reserve dedicated to the research and
study of the wildlife, it has now been opened to tourism. Liuwa
Plains, very remote and secluded, has an impressive wildebeest
migration second only to that of the Serengeti and Masai-Mara
plains.
